Should I pursue a tradwife or adult gap year?

April 18, 2024β€’2 min read

if companies want to protect their employees from burnout, wouldn't it be nice if companies offered this as part of their comp plan? But until then, this is a really powerful idea of taking a one-year sabbatical from work to truly recharge. If you want to make this real, reply to this email and let's see if we can find a way to make this happen for you. No promises 🀞 BUT couldn't hurt to explore the question for YOU.

Big massive shifts are going on in my world so I'm going to keep this short, sweet, and exactly what you need this morning.

READING: The Age of Magical Overthinking by Amanda Montell

Witty, brilliant, hilarious, and so freaking fascinating about our culture. This is NOT a self-help book. And can we talk about tradwives, please???

CONTEMPLATING: Adult gap year

LAUGHING: I mean, nobody can stop. 🀣 🀣 🀘🏼🀘🏼

WATCHING: Sex and the City reruns on NETFLIX!

I am once again, deeply obsessed. Yet, also proud of us as a society. So much of the show didn't age well and is deeply programmatic.

Interestingly enough, it was a PROGRESSIVE groundbreaking show in the late 90's/early 2000's set to liberate and empower women - but was set around these empowered women obsessing over emotionally unavailable guys for validation.

Even as a culture study around a patriarchal society, it's fascinating to watch.

I had my own Mr. Big. πŸ‘Ώ He was SO much like Chris Noth's character and lingered for a looooong time in my mind, head, and heart.

And looking back, it was SO obvious how wrong he was but I was chasing the dream that we were all taught.

Find a guy to marry you, take care of you, validate your existence (while not being a nagging b*tch), while also being a working bad-ass, keep up your appearances, and all the other stuff that we are still unlearning today.

Ooof, I'm tired. Time to binge season 2!

xo,

P.S. Right when you receive this, I'll be meeting Chelsea Peitz in-person for the first time. DO NOT MISS this episode of Late Learner on the new social media strategy for Gen X.

Pps. Are your friendships suffering? Here are 3 non-obvious tips to help (especially if you're busy and tired AF).

Ppps. I was featured on the new podcast The Gen X Experience on battling burnout. It was such an interesting conversation about the culture and practical tactical ways to move through it with freedom and ease.
