Allison as a baby with her Dad

Dementia is a complete b*tch.

Dementia is a complete b*tch.

Sometimes you lose people. And sometimes you lose people while they are right in front of you.

My 95 year old dad's current obsessive delusion is money - or his perception that he has none and he's in big trouble.

And while I considered whether this is too personal or private to share -

There's this urge to put myself in hiding until I'm in a better state and can talk about the "life lessons" once I am on the other side.

But that wouldn't be true to me. Or that helpful to you..

And as we are learning from relationship therapist, Jason VanRuler, healing can happen faster when you are connected to support...not just curating the highlight reel.

Truthfully, I don't want to do this alone. So if you have experience on how to handle or what's happening, please email me ([email protected]) and let me know.

But there is a connective tissue here that I wanted to talk to you about.

I've been on my own healing journey on my own deep-rooted generational and cultural issues with money and scarcity.

Watching my Dad spiral down into this in real time is a wild mind f*ck.

He has money. He is safe, deeply cared for, and loved. He is not in any trouble.

And it got me thinking about how much we obsess over money and finances and defining what is enough (newsflash: there is no number that is enough).

And in doing so, we miss the moments to be with what we do have. Our family. Our capable bodies. Nature around us. Friends. Mentors. Love. Inspiration.

Redefining success - especially in our 40's and beyond - has so little to do with money and everything we were taught to hustle for and covet in the previous decades.

And truly has everything to do with whom you are connected with. Are you safe? Do you have love? Is there an opportunity for growth, change, and alignment? Do you feel supported? Do you feel courage to make your situation better?

Let's celebrate what you do have - right now. Email me ([email protected]) and tell me ONE non-monetary thing or person that makes you feel successful.

And let's build from there.

Okay, I'm going to call my Dad now.

xo,

Allison
