Midlife love ≠ a slow death. Here’s proof.

February 13, 20251 min read

Remember The Notebook?

Of course, you do. The kind of love that makes you ugly cry into your pillow —the kind where you die peacefully, hand in hand, because the universe knows you can’t be apart.

And a passion that could set a dead squirrel's loins on fire. 🔥

Awwwwww. I'm still wiping away my tears.

If you’re a Gen X or Millennial, you didn’t grow up on that kind of love.

We were latchkey kids watching divorce rates skyrocket while Hollywood spoon-fed us Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail.

I blame Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan for effing us up!

No wonder relationships in real life feel...off.

Now we’re deep in midlife, and the shiny, romantic fantasy has been replaced by calendar invites, logistical negotiations, and trying to remember the last time you had sex for fun.

But here’s the thing:
💥 We are
generation-breaking.
💥 Therapy isn’t taboo anymore (hallelujah).
💥 We are
so much more self-aware.
💥 We have
choices.

I think about this constantly. Chris and I are creeping up on 13 years of marriage—lucky #13.

And as perimenopause turns me into an unpredictable Tasmanian Devil (read: sometimes a complete unmitigated a-hole), I’ve been re-examining what makes us work.

So, I’m bringing back an episode that hit hard last year—because we need it.

Five unconventional, slightly exposing, brutally honest ways to restore your relationship before it flatlines.

Think Dirty Dancing—but instead of Patrick Swayze lifting Baby, it’s you remembering why you chose your partner in the first place.

Because the person you co-parent with, share a mortgage with, and (maybe still?) love... that relationship matters.

Let’s bring it back to life. 🔥

PS. Did you see the Tom Hanks/Robin Wright (hellloooo again Forrest Gump) movie, Here? Wow. I thought it was slow and boring until I saw the end and it's what prompted this missive. The surprising arc of a love story told in the most profoundly subtle ways. Acting: brilliant. The entire movie: shot from one angle only. across time from prehistoric era to now. Trailer here.

PPS. Only 6 spots left in my exclusive 12-week podcast launch group —Hit reply here if you want in before they’re gone!

PPPS. If you need a break from the news, this will make you LYAO. 🤣🤣
