Seeking more meaning

September 11, 20233 min read

Have you seen Live to 100 yet on Netflix?

It's that Blue Zone documentary. Blue zones are certain areas around the globe where they have the highest concentration of centenarians and a healthier older population.

I don't want to live to 100.

It sounds absolutely miserable.

I've watched both my parents suffer as they've gotten older.

Forgetfulness. Lack of balance. Illness. Probably undiagnosed depression from loneliness.

We've gotten to the age where aging parent care is imminent for me and my friends.

Questions over crippling costs, accommodations, responsibilities, and care can carry a crushing weight and an emotional toll on all involved.

As they profiled each blue zone community, connection and purpose was a clear common thread.

And isn't connection and purpose what we are all searching for anyway?

I realized that I work in bursts. I may not always be posting consistently online. I really don't care. I want to move naturally (another common thread in the BZ doc) and honor that anyway.

So if you are also seeking connection and more meaning, I invite you to prioritize this with me.

This week, I found myself in a "burst" and thought about people who had crossed my path and that I really enjoyed meeting - but never made time to follow-up.

Who are those people who you felt an instant connection with or noticed the interaction just sparked you?

Maybe it was at a social gathering and maybe you exchanged numbers but never nurtured it.

You know, life gets in the way. So busy. No time.

NURTURE THAT SPARK.

What would be possible if you followed that glimmer?

I took my bursting state and I reached out to a few people and invited them to grab tea, take a walk, or have a 30-minute Zoom chat. No agenda. Just said - hey, I loved meeting you, I felt like we connected, and I want to get to know you better.

Would you prioritize this for yourself?

Think of the past 5 or 6 group events/gatherings you've been to and make a list of 3 or 4 people that you sparked with. Reach out.

In fact, I am writing this after I met Amy IRL in a local coffee shop outside in the fresh air on a beautiful sunny day in Atlanta. I'm sparked all the way up. ✨ ✨ ✨
