Glitter laying on ground with black background

Weary defeat and a glimmer of hope

May 25, 20223 min read

I'm trying SO hard not to put blame on Republicans.

But I am so unbelievably angry at the Republican agenda.

I can't remember which school shooting it was - there have been so many.

But I'm a big fan of Shannon Watts and Moms Demand Action (and fierce advocate for Everytown for Gun Safety) and signed up for a local chapter after one of these massacres.

I'm a firm believer that if something needs to change, you MUST do something to change it - more than just shouting into the ether on FB.

Social media isn't effective enough....except to spread misinformation.

The socials do a great job highlight the problem, but finding a solution to get behind? Much harder.

Back then, I signed up to get involved with the local chapter on gun reform.

But as many of these massacres happen, they rile up everybody, people die, gun reform doesn't happen, and like any news cycle, it fades out of view until the next one.

And I ended up never going to a meeting.

It weighed so heavily on my heart, I didn't know how I could be in that world even more.

Apathy.

it's not apathy but it feels like it. It feels like privilege that I can choose not to watch the horrors on the news.

I can't look at the 19 beautiful faces of the children murdered and the 2 teachers. But I look at my children and weep at the thought that someone can take them away from us.

Our schools aren't safe. Our churches and synagogues and places of worship aren't safe, our grocery stores aren't safe. WTF!

I can't look at the abominable states that are restricting abortion and controlling women's bodies.

Protesting was effective in the 60's but it seems like a

If the pain is too much to bear, weary defeat can't be the answer.

We must know that our voices and our efforts matter. And keep fighting.

Vote. Get involved. Call YOUR local representatives (effective script here). Get your friends involved. If you can't get involved, donate to organizations that are making a huge impact.

Text ACT to 644-33 for Everytown for Gun Control to get started.

If this post makes you feel something, will you share it? Comment?

And what a perfect time to introduce something we need desperately from external and internal stressors and overwork: MENTAL REST.

There's only one person on earth I know who can do this in the most troubling of situations, corporate executive turned life coach, Maureen Whatley on today's episode.

This is Maureen's second appearance on CC as she talked all about the psychology of emotional eating. Personally, Maureen is one of my favorite people on earth. We have been friends for 15 years and as far as I am concerned, she walks on water. She's so wise and has a very unique and helpful perspective. I'm so excited to share her with you today.
