"Okay, Allison. Just throw together a presentation while you're on vacation, and we'll finally get the prospect on the line to close the deal."

I froze. And I was PISSED.

I was new in the role and felt like I had something to prove. It was also peak COVID, and my boss? Let’s just say we weren’t about to braid friendship bracelets together.

Depending on the day, he was either erratic, mercurial, or outright humiliating to anyone in his path. And I hate to admit it—but I couldn’t find the strength, power, or words to push back.

So, I did what I always did: worked harder. Did what was expected. Tried to breathe through it, gripped my obsidian crystal (protection, my a*s), and meditated in the hopes of unclenching my entire nervous system.

But the truth? I was twisted in knots. Obsessing. And furious with myself for letting it happen.

I’ve never been the type to take sh*t from people. And yet, here I was—being gaslit on the daily and pretending it was normal.

Eventually, I got out. A better opportunity came, and I ran.

And here’s what I learned:

Keeping the peace while keeping your mouth shut causes WAY more destruction than just handling things differently in the first place.

Could I have spoken up? Yep.

Would it have changed anything? Maybe?

But I wouldn’t have been stuck in silent misery, feeling resentful of every mind-numbing meeting that could’ve been an email.
