They didn't realize I was a seed...
Repressed. Beaten. Bloody. Abused. Neglected.
Sinéad O'Connor sang because it was the only thing she could do for her abusive mother to calm down (temporarily).
Her mother tortured her mercilessly - emotionally, physically, mentally.
And as she started to sing in bands and out in public as a teenager, she said it was her way to scream.
"it was such a shock to become a pop star. It wasn't what I wanted. I just wanted to scream." - Sinéad O'Connor
Would would it sound like if you were able to scream out ALL of your pain?
All the injustice, heartbreak, longing, inequality, anger, sorrow, desire, frustration, disempowerment - ALL of the insurmountable weight you carry silently could finally be released with a primal scream.
I've been in situations where I could - and I couldn't.
I was holding on tight for dear life. Holding it all in hoping I wouldn't explode first.
Yet once again, our worry about what others will think of us - keeps us carrying this crushing weight.
I talk to so many women every week who know they have a calling on their heart...something bigger than her...but they are SO afraid they will be judged.
And every day, choose to stay small and stay in their comfort zone.
The mission to serve and live in your highest version of yourself MUST be greater than the fear of being judged for doing something new.
Until one day, you choose to grow. You choose a new path.
In watching the 2022 documentary of Sinéad O'Connor (prior to her untimely death in 2023), Nothing Compares, she was light years ahead of her time.
She was brave and courageous and stood up for MASSIVE change amid an entire sh*tstorm of backlash that impacted her career forevermore. YET her courage was unapologetically raw and true and led to a chain reaction of change made for human rights - especially for women.
And now it's our turn. It's your turn. It's my turn.
They tried to bury me...They didn‘t realize I was a seed.

Allison
